This is why Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank), in strategic alliance with Swiss global private bank Lombard Odier, launched NextGen Academy Online, a two-part event series designed to empower next-generation family business leaders.

Hosted by the newly launched UnionBank Private Banking Binondo Center via Zoom, the first NextGen Academy Online had over 500 participants, majority of whom are members of the Filipino Chinese community.

The first session focused on family wealth and business succession, as well as global and local investment strategies. Meanwhile, the following session tackled the digitalization and future-proofing of a family business. This session also featured a sharing of the Lombard Odier story and an inter-generational panel which aimed to address the expectations, apprehensions, and tension points faced by the next generation. This panel saw a rich discourse where participants and panelists shared their ideas, experiences, and insights.

“It is our mission to fulfill our clients’ dream to grow their wealth, accumulate it for the long-term, and eventually pass it on to the next generation. We do this together with our strategic ally, Lombard Odier, a leading global wealth and asset manager,” shared UnionBank Private Banking Group Head, Atty. Arlene Tanjuaquio-Agustin.

Guest speakers included Lombard Odier Asia’s Limited Partner & CEO Vincent Magnenat, Head of Wealth Planning Lee Wong, Chief Investment Officer Jean-Louis Nakamura, and Deputy Head of Private Banking Pierre-Yves Lombard. The event also featured UnionBank’s Head of Private Banking Group Atty. Arlene Joan Agustin, Chief Investment Officer Sonny Ordonez, Chief Transformation Officer Henry Aguda and Chief Digital Channels Officer Ana Aboitiz Delgado, among others.

UnionBank Private Banking regards itself as the client’s wealth management solutions provider. The group values each client’s financial legacy – understanding that their wealth is more than just their money. As a multi-generation Aboitiz-led Bank, UnionBank has established credibility in Succession Planning, Wealth and Business transition throughout the years.

Lombard Odier has served its clients across seven generations, with over two centuries of rich heritage and stability through 40 financial crises. It has established expertise in the fields of wealth transition, succession planning, business sustainability, and family governance.

NextGen Academy is a product of the strategic alliance of UnionBank and Lombard Odier. It serves as an excellent avenue for participants to gain valuable insight and training from subject matter experts to help them prepare for their roles in the family business. NextGen Academy received various international recognition in 2020 including Best for Wealth Transfer/Succession Planning at the Asiamoney Private Banking Awards, Best NextGen Offering Winner at The Digital Banker’s Global Private Banking Innovation Awards, and Best Next-Gen Offering Winner at Private Banker International’s Global Wealth Awards.
