DLSU and Amber Kinetics launch Flywheel Storage Management System Project with DOST

De La Salle University and industry partner Amber Kinetics, launched their project “Integrated Flywheel Storage Management System” — a research under the DOST CRADLE (Collaborative Research and Development to Leverage Philippine Economy) program.

The kickoff event was staged virtually, gathering academicians, researchers, government officials, and business leaders to discuss developments and challenges of clean energy solutions in the country. The joint project of DLSU and Amber Kinetics aims to improve viability of off-grid energy systems by investigating various applications with renewable energy and developing a management system to incorporate the flywheel technology.

In the event, attendees took the time to share their views on the significant shift to clean energy and technologies which may accelerate the transition. The movement towards sustainability and decarbonization indicate rapid growth of renewable energy in the coming years but issues on intermittency continue to serve as a challenge. Amber Kinetics used this as a springboard to come up with the best long-duration solution through its flywheel technology and the company believes that the development of a system integrator will allow users to fully unlock all benefits from the energy storage system.

“Any technology is only as good as its ability to be integrated into the system that it’s going to be a part of. Responding to the demand for clean energy is the heart of the application of this project we’re undertaking together,” says Archie Go (Global VP of Operations, Amber Kinetics). Furthermore, Amber Kinetics expressed its gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with DLSU as a leading university for technology and development in the country.

DOST awarded DLSU and Amber Kinetics with a PHP 5-M grant for the advancement of its Integrated Flywheel Storage Management System project. DOST continues to support innovative solutions that bring positive social impact, paving the way for the collaboration between the industry and the academe. DLSU and Amber Kinetics’ Integrated Flywheel Storage Management System project aligns with DOST’s goal to help optimize energy storage technologies to ensure sustainable energy supply for every Filipino.
